Unit 3: Social Trends
This unit is about social trends. Social trends are defined as large-scale changes in our society.
What social trends or large-scale changes have we experienced in Canadian society? What global trends are taking place? How do social scientists study and evaluate these trends?
Transitions in Society, our textbook, has this to say about social trends:
"The exploration and evaluation of social trends is conducted by demographers, social scientists who study human populations and provide population data and statistics. Anthropologists, sociologists, and psychologists get involved in the action as well: anthropologists by studying the ways that social trends affect cultures; sociologists by exploring the impact on families, social institutions, and other groups; and pyschologists by examining how tehse changes affect individuals." (page 140)
In this unit we will be exploring a number of social trends - such as the baby boom - from the different social science perspectives.
